The Location
The Hotel Contessa is ideally located on San Antonio’s Riverwalk and the center of downtown.
Walk out the front door and you are a quick 5-10 min walk from the El Mercado Market Square for Mexican dining, historic sites like the Spanish Governor’s Palace, entertainment at the Aztec Theatre.
Walk out the back door into the Riverwalk and you have access along the tree lined grotto to restaurants, more entertainment at the Arleson River Theatre and a beautiful walk to the Alamo.
I loved this location both for its accessibility as well as the fact that it is in a quieter part of the Riverwalk for breakfast outdoor dining on the terrace enjoying the serenity of the Riverwalk.

Property Highlights
Hotel Contessa is a luxury hotel that offers all the customary amenities you would expect including a fitness center, business center, concierge and valet parking as well as a Day Spa.
The highlight of this property from my stay was the gorgeous rooftop pool. The pool is spectacular with views of downtown San Antonio for some wonderful night swimming. One of the nights I was there, a storm rolled through – Texas size for some great views of both downtown and the storm that was brewing.
This hotel also has so a wonderful main sitting area and bar that will want to make you linger. It feels both open with huge palm tress in the enormous area and cozy at the same time with little nooks for conversation.
I enjoyed a margarita at the Cork Bar before dinner on the Riverwalk. Try the Blistered Shishito Peppers for a unique twist of San Antonio cuisine if in need of an appetizer.
The Rooms
Hotel Contessa has 265 room and all are suites for a spacious stay. The rooms offer an urban/modern feel with brick walls, modern artwork and some classic touches of San Antonio carved furniture. There is plenty of room to spread out with a separate living room, bedroom and a spacious bathroom.
As the property is located on the riverwalk, many of the rooms has scenic views of the watery canal.

In the Area
San Antonio has plenty to offer for a weekend getaway or longer.
Explore the new UNESCO site – 5 missions from the 1600’s including The Alamo to understand the history of early settlers.
Celebrate the communities that have shaped San Antonio at the El Mercado Square, along the Riverwalk and the German heritage in the King Hill neighborhood.
San Antonio is always evolving developing museums to preserve their roots and developing new centers like The Pearl.
