The Location
Deep in the Delphi Valley, this resort sits on 300 acres of forest providing an immersive experience in nature.
The Delphi Mountain Resort is located about 1.5 hours northwest of Galway and just 5 minutes from the Killary Harbour Fjord
- Remote nature!
The History
Established in March 1982, Delphi was created to serve local kids looking for adventure and grew to accommodate more than 14,000 children each year from across Ireland and Britain with hostel accommodations.
In 2008, a 50-bedroom hotel and spa was built on the site operating under the brand Delphi Mountain Resort.
In 2014, it rebranded to incorporate both the adventure and luxury side of the business, becoming Delphi Adventure Resort and Spa.
The resort continues to evolve with accommodations ranging from a 180 basic, affordable hostel to luxury two bedroom suites in a hotel serving families (many of whom many are parents bringing their kids back to where they used to summer in the 1980’s) corporate retreats and adventure junkies.
The Scene
This resort has a mountain lodge feel ready for adventure, but fully stocked with 4-star amenities including a spa, restaurant, bar, and more.
The hallways have some interesting modern architecture that leads to cozy nooks perfect for reading a book after an outdoor adventure.
The Rooms
I enjoyed a one-bedroom suite with plenty of room in both the bedroom and living room areas.
My favorite part was the outside deck for some morning yoga with beautiful views out to the loch.
The Wifi was a bit spotty in the rooms and throughout the resort, but to be expected given the remote locale. The resort is setup for outdoor adventure… not laptop work…. so I shut it down and gladly enjoyed the nature setting.
The Dining
The 814 Restaurant offers casual dining with gorgeous views again out to the mountains and lochs from the indoor seating area and an outdoor deck available when its not raining.
We enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal from food sourced and selected from locally based farmers and fishermen.
Starter
Goat Cheese Tarte
Mains
Mushroom Risotto
Pan-Seared Fillet of Hake
Dessert
Cobbler with Vanilla Ice-Cream
Warm Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice-Cream
The Bar
Of course, every good Irish establishment must have a bar.
We skipped on over here after dinner to enjoy an after dinner Guinness and some toe-tapping traditional Irish music.
In the Area
On site activities include zip-lining, bog challenges, coasteering and yoga.
I absolutely love archery. I first learned Robin Hood style in Nottingham Forest and always grab a bow and arrow every chance I get. We had a great time and I got every arrow on the target… and even a couple in the yellow. Yeah!
There are so many activities on site to enjoy, but Delphi also sits in the middle of some amazing nature sites.
Killary Fjord
Aasleagh Falls
Connemara National Park
Final Thoughts
The Delphi Resort is the the resort for adventure junkies.
It’s the type of place you stay for a week, enjoy some hikes, adventure activities and spa time to rest, unwind, and disconnect.
Thank you to Tourism Ireland & Steller for hosting me on this trip. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
